IMMINENT CONDITIONAL, curated by Scarlett Kim and Ines Kang, is an interactive virtual gallery exhibition featuring digital works by Korean American high school students that explore speculative futures. The artists envision alternative, fictional, and absurd futures in the form of digital debris in a labyrinthian virtual landscape that mirrors the precarity of contemporary life. The multimedia explorations are inspired by the artists’ experiences as Korean American youths in Los Angeles, their intimate relationship to media as digital natives, and their roles in intergenerational dialogue. As young artists, they position themselves as agents of change and authors of new futures through their art.
Visitors can navigate the virtual space, hosted on the Mozilla Hubs platform, on their browser or through a VR headset. The immersive space designed by Ines Kang, a corroded version of the traditional physical gallery, serves as a surreal home for the digital artworks.
